MAPI profil

Hi,
I try e-mail through SQL Server. I have Outlook 2000 installed, MAPI profile created. If I want test it, SQL Server displays this error:
Error 18030: xp_test_mapi_profile : Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.
Can me sombody help, thanks.Hi
You need to login as the SQL Agent on the machine, configure outlook, log
off and re-start SQL Agent.

You should ask this type of question in the MCSF workspace, which you can find at http://www.codeplex.com/smartclient. The order of the scripts is specific to the implementation of this Patterns and Practice SDK and not really a part of SQL Express.

Manual Configuration - Installation

I have installed Reporting Services on a computer running Windows Server 2000
with SP4. At the end of the installation it told me it could not
automatically configure/start reporting services and that it needed to be
done. The only thing I can find in the readme file is in regards to
permissions dor IWAM on a domain controller, however this server is not a
domain controller. When I go to the page for ReportManager I get an access
denied and the ReportingServices page has a page cannot be displayed error.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

service has not generated a public key. The service may have not have
started successfully. Check the log files for more information.

Managing SQL 2000 databases on Vista...

I have one database at an ISP running on a SQL 2000 server. Under Windows XP Pro, I installed SQL 2000 administrative tools then I could use the database manager as well as the query tool to manage my database.

I have upgraded my machine to Windows Vista Ultimate. SQL 2000 client services won't install under Windows Vista.

Under Windows Vista, I was able to create an ODBC component that connected successfully to the SQL 2000 remote database, but I no longer have a transaction tool or a gui to manage the tables.

My goals are simple: I want to be able to view/add/drop tables and data using some sort of GUI. I would also like to have some sort of SQL transaction client. I don't need to do any high level database management, just view/change/add/delete tables in the one database that I own on that server.

My isp is NOT going to upgrade their SQL. I do not own Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel. What FREE software options do I have, given my goals?

Downloading Eval version isnt' a permanent solution...

I did purchase MS Office Excel 2007... and I can create an ODBC link to the database and grab table data... but if I edit the table I can't seem to find a way to get it to save those changes back to the table directly?

Managing MSDE and SQL Express...

I'm a newbie so I won't mind if you roll your eyes as you read this...
I have sqlExpress installed on my machine and its working beautifully.
I have used SqlExpress and msde in the past for web development with
great success, but I have always had an issue managing the databases in
Visual Studio.net or VisualWebDev2k5 in as much as its cumbersome and
hard to manage not to mention slower.
Is there any sort of stand-alone interface - like SQL enterprise
manager -- to help with this?

I just installed Visual Studio 2005 Rc1, after that i installed Sql server
2005 september ctp.
Everything worked out fine and i installed everyprogram and all the tools
from sql server 2005 september ctp.
But when i try to find management studio i cant find it... its not under
Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP
the only thing thats under Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP is configuration
tools...
do i need to do some configuration to make management studio works?

One common cause for not having the SQL Server Management Studio is
that you installed SQL Server Express Edition. It doesn't have SQL
Server Management Studio.
Another possibility is that you didn't choose to install SQL Server
Management Studio during Setup.
If you don't already have it, find a copy of SQL Server 2005 Developer
Edition (or above). Click the Advanced button during setup and study
the options for installation on the Advanced screen carefully.
Then you should be in good shape.

When i installed the VS2005 RC1 i choosed to install sql 2005 express. but
after i finished that installation i installed sql server 2005 september ctp
(standard edition) in an new instance.
i have removed the sql 2005 september ctp and installed it again but its
still not there.
when im installing sql server 2005 september ctp im choosing all the
checkbox when i come to the point where i get the question what programs i
want to install.
when i read your answere i wonder if i should remove both vs2005 rc1 and sql
server 2005 september ctp. then install vs 2005 rc1 withour sql 2005 express
and then install sql server 2005 september ctp again.

As a first step make sure you click the Advanced button during SQL
Server 2005 setup.
On the advanced screen make sure you notice the visual difference
between the install this component and the install this component and
all its subcomponent options.
It's easy to miss out some desired subcomponents.
If that works, then fine.
But if not ...
The recommended install order is SQL Server 2005 then Visual Studo
2005. So if the simpler approach doesn't work that looks like the way
to go.
Check after installing SQL Server that SQL Server Management Studio
has installed. It should be in Start|All Programs|Microsoft SQL Server
2005 CTP.

I reinstalled sql 2005 and vs 2005 rc1 and all worked out really fine.

Copy both to your harddrive and rerun setup and choose the repair option and when you get to select components choose Management tools the new Enterprise Manager is called Management Studio and install it in both. Then right click at the top of Management Studio to register the Standard Edition with the Developer Edition because it is the Enterprise Edition with no deployment restriction. Hope this helps.

When I installed 2008, the server installed fine, but SSMS didn't. The installer program says it is installed. I'm assuming my problem has to do with the screwed up uninstall. Any ideas how I clean this mess without wiping my drive and reinstalling the OS? Thanks.

Ok, I uninstalled both Sql Server 2008 and 2005. The install process went fine until the last step -- documentation. It failed here. However, I have a link to the Books On Line and it works. The server is installed and running, but not SSMS. I previously had installed VS2008 on the D drive. I've seen references in other posts that this might be a problem.

Management Studio Very slow to open

Hi,

I've had this problem with a VM and now on the Live box. I installed Windows Server 2003 SP1, then install SQL server 2005 and applied service pack 1.

As an administrator Management Studio takes approximately 2 seconds to open. However, if I log in to windows with any other local user account Manangement Studio takes approximately 1.5 minutes to open.

The whole interface is slow unless I use the administrator account to log into windows.

If anyone has a solution I would be very greatful as this is a new build for our production environment.

Not sure if this will help, but if you have a look at internet explorer, on tools, internet options, advanced, security, check for publishers certificate revocation. I believe the default is enabled (ticked). On out NON-INTERNET facing DB machines, we have disabled that, and see a significant improvement in SSMS 'opening' time. I have heard that SSMS 'calls home' to check soemthing, and that by disabling this option, it no longer does this.

As I have it, the reason it can take so long is that on a non-internet facing machine, it waits for a timeout there.... true or not true ? I'm not sure, but I do know we are seeing a significant improvement

|||Thanks very much for post. I'm teaching it on XPsp2 machines and the timeout was about 10 mins. Very annoying and this fix sorted it straight away takes 1 second to open now. :)

Management Studio startup error: splash screen then nothing

I have got sql 2005 installed and the management studio has stopped working.
Now when I try and open it up, I see the splash screen for a split second and
then nothing.
I tried uninstalling BOL (july 2006) which some posts suggested but it still
doesn't work.
Any ideas?
After the splash screen goes away, do you see sqlWb.exe in Task Manager's
process list?

Did you ever have the Express version of Mgmt Studio on your machine?
The Express version and the full version don't go well together.

uninstalled it before embarking on the normal version.

And "embarking" means that you installed the normal version?
Clutching at straws, you could try uninstall the tools and then reinstall.

Remove client tools
reboot
add remove programs
sql server 2005
add new component
navigate to setup.exe
add all client tool components, sample dbs etc
it works
what a pain, this doesn't make sense (working, stops working, working...)
just hope it doesn't happen again
